The Recreational Arts Department supports campers’ creative development by encouraging physical activity and an appreciation of the natural world. Set in an idyllic forest, Usdan’s campus is joined together by walking paths designed for optimal enjoyment of fresh air and natural light. Across campus, students can enjoy nature walks, swim in two large outdoor pools, play sports including gaga, soccer, basketball, and quidditch, as well as practice yoga and archery. Recreation at Usdan is focused on building confidence and mindfulness, fostering teamwork, and having fun.

Each day, students spend one period, or approximately one hour, enjoying a Recreational Activity. All Recreational Activities take place outdoors. Each group visits the pools two to three times per week and rotates through the remaining activities. There are picnic areas with games and other activities for those who prefer not to participate in the assigned Recreational Activity that day.
