Ukrainian Sunflower Scholars Highlighted in the News

Sunflower scholars

In an effort to assist the social and emotional well-being of children and families escaping conflict in Ukraine who are arriving in New York, Usdan has given 13 Ukrainian refugee children the opportunity to attend camp this summer on a full scholarship.

We hope to do all we can to alleviate the struggles these children face – to give them the opportunity to be in nature, join a welcoming community, connect with other students, and make art this summer.

"We've only seen warmth for our Ukrainian friends who have come to Usdan. And some of the students are in studios that have no other Ukrainian students, that's the sign to me also that they are really being welcomed and included in the experience,” says Usdan Executive Director, Lauren Brandt Schloss.

Support for the Sunflower Scholarship comes from UJA-Federation and other generous donations.

Usdan's Sunflower Scholars were highlighted on ABC7 and News12 and in Newsday. Below, click the buttons to view the full pieces and enjoy a video created by UJA-Federation, highlighting our Ukrainian students.
