Home / Usdan Online Program Overview

Welcome to Usdan Online: Usdan's online arts education program.

Usdan Online aims to provide excellent arts instruction and to create a thriving community of young artists that is not dependent on being together physically. We hope Usdan Online will allow students to remain connected to Usdan, make new memories, and creatively contribute to the world now.

The program engages our talented network of artist educations to teach exciting courses in Art, Culinary Arts, Dance, Music, Nature, Theater, and Writing.

If you are interested in a course that is not offered below, such as chess or private music lessons, please email enrollment@usdan.org. We want to hear from you!

THE ONLINE STUDIO

This summer, Zoom rooms will be transformed into online studios. The online studio provides a space for students to expand their creative practice, take risks, and make positive connections. Activated live via Zoom, classes are structured to encourage creativity, engagement and collaboration.

At the start of the course, each online studio will unite as a group to create their own list of community agreements that focus on respect and empathy. Online studio etiquette will be addressed and is paramount to the success of the online studio space.

Group courses will have 1 or 2 instructors and 6 to 12 students. Dance classes may have up to 16 students.

Usdan Online courses require 6 students to run, so please share with your friends.

Courses are subject to cancellation if there are less than 6 students enrolled three days before the course start date.

CELEBRATING WORK

At the end of the 6-week program, Usdan will host a culminating event to celebrate student work with families and the greater Usdan community. The virtual event will take place on Wednesday, August 19 at 4:30 PM.

In addition, Usdan will host two Friday Open Mics to provide students an opportunity to share their work. Usdan Online students can sign up and submit work for an Open Mic at any point throughout the 6-week summer program. Registration for Open Mics will be posted before July 10, 2020.

STUDENT GRADES

Usdan Online is designed for 1st to 12th graders, based on the grade just completed.

While most courses are geared towards middle schoolers, Usdan will always consider allowing students outside of the listed grade ranges into courses should it be developmentally appropriate.

DATES & RATES

Usdan Online offers courses which are 1-week or 2-weeks in length, over a period of 6 weeks:
July 6, 2020 - August 14, 2020

Each class will run 60 or 90 minutes in length and is held 2 to 5 days a week, from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

Courses are priced at cost and vary according to the total number of instructional hours. Families who enroll in two or more courses will receive a 5% discount off their total tuition. Families who were enrolled for Usdan's in-person camp this summer can use tuition paid for Usdan Online courses.

To help grow the Usdan Online community, we invite you to donate $25, $50, or $100 at the time of enrollment.

Is the course price not right for your family? If you received a need-based scholarship for Summer 2020 and could benefit from some assistance for an online course, please let us know by emailing enrollment@usdan.org.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS

Usdan strives to limit family spending by simplifying materials required such as instruments, dance clothing, and art supplies. Any course requirements will be listed in the parent notes section of the course description.

Many of the art supplies required can be found around your home or at a local store. Some art classes will require specialty items such as watercolor sets, acrylic paints, or cardstock. The Usdan faculty has created a list of recommended items and brands, which you can access here.

Feel free to enrollment@usdan.org with any questions.

COMMUNITY EVENTS

In addition to online courses, Usdan will be offering a range of community events throughout the summer. You can find these events listed in the “Drop-Ins” section on the enrollment page and a full calendar of events here. All events will be free with a “suggested contribution” option.

PRIVATE & SMALL GROUP COURSES

Usdan is open to offering private and small group courses outside of listed options. Families who do not do not find a course that fits their child's interest can request a private or small group course, such as chess or private music lessons, by emailing enrollment@usdan.org

FEEDBACK

Usdan Online was designed based on the feedback of our current and recent past families, and it does not need to stop here. We encourage to to continue sending feedback throughout the summer so we can improve how the program supports your children and their creative development. We will offer opportunities to submit feedback, and always encourage you to send comments or suggestions to enrollment@usdan.org
