Do you aspire to produce your own shows? Do you like to work behind the scenes? Join Festival Showrunners and be a critical part of putting on Festival — daily performances that take place mid-day in Usdan’s 900-seat Amphitheater.
In this Minor, students work side-by-side with professional art educators and artists who mentor them on how to connect audiences, live and virtually. Students train as hosts, ushers, and/or storytellers, and then put into practice what they learn. As hosts, students act as emcees, writing scripts, making important announcements, and introducing the day’s performers. They learn important skills such as public speaking and how to respond to and engage a crowd.
As ushers, students guide guests to their seats and pass out flyers and buttons, bringing to life Usdan’s values of inclusivity and community. They learn the ins and outs of front of house management and what it takes to make a show happen behind the scenes.
Storytellers capture the Festival performances, either through photography, videography, or written content. Students learn how to craft a compelling story through visual and written media, with the opportunity to contribute to the Usdan social media and blog.
Pre-requisites: This is a course for students who can work independently, in small groups, and are comfortable being trusted with responsibility. If you have any questions about whether this is the right fit for your child, please email education@usdan.org
