Remembering Nan Melville

Nan

Today, we are sad to share the heartbreaking news that our dear camp videographer, Nan Melville, passed away on March 18, far too soon.

Nan touched everyone at Usdan with her kindness, endless energy, and creative spirit. She was a true artist – the work she created was not only beautiful, thoughtful, and engaging, but always placed Usdan's youth voices at the center.

We will miss her and are forever grateful for the beautiful work she created for this community.

You can learn more about Nan's inspiring life's work in media here.

In her honor, we are sharing below one of our favorite videos she made of Summer 2021.

Memories

If you'd like to share a memory of Nan, please email it to owise@usdan.org and we will post it on this page.

The memory I would like to share is of Nan in a swimsuit with a fabric wrapped around her, still wet from the pool, editing on her desktop in the admin building. Nan really proved that summer camp is also for people who are 70+.

We loved how everyone would always recognize her and be so glad to see her passing by. She was always so enthusiastic and encouraging about our production, and everyone in Troupe would be so excited when she came by to get video footage of us performing one of our numbers. We remember her always being around and just having the best energy. She would show us her cool camera and she always had a giraffe pouch/fanny pack. Her just popping in the studio automatically made everyone happier. We were so lucky to get to know her last summer.
