Adapting to a Changing Climate: Envirothon at Usdan

Envirothon Activity

Last month, Usdan Summer Camp for the Arts was thrilled to collaborate with the Nassau and Suffolk County Soil and Water Conservation Districts to co-host the 25th annual Long Island Regional Envirothon, a challenging academic competition for teams of Long Island high school students interested in environmental science.

Each year, the Envirothon tests students on five subject areas: aquatics, forestry, soils, wildlife, and a 5th issue that rotates annually - this year’s was “Adapting to a Changing Climate.” Teams complete a 25-question exam on each of the five subject areas, plus deliver oral presentations on climate change.

We’re happy to share that the top three teams from this year’s Envirothon were awarded prizes, and that the winning team from each county went on to participate in the NY State Envirothon, held the week of May 26th. Finally, each member of each winning team received a well-deserved scholarship of $500.

As always, Usdan is proud to support local students and committed to spreading awareness about our changing environment.
